I am a follower of Christ, wife to my best friend, and mother to Abigail. We live outside of Houston, TX where I take care of our daughter, write, edit, teach Bible, art, and music to elementary and middle school kids, cook, clean, read, sing, and play guitar.
On August 28th, 2017, our lives changed dramatically when Hurricane Harvey stalled over Southeast Texas and dumped 52 inches of rain over the Bayou that runs along the backside of our neighborhood. We left our house with a few changes of clothes, snacks, and our computers. Thankfully, six friends from church showed up just in time to help us carry our bags, our daughter, and our dog through waist-deep water and get us to safety. We returned three days later after waiting for the floodwaters to recede from our neighborhood. Our house received about two feet of water inside. Enough to be devastating, but we were grateful that we still had a house to rebuild.
More than anything, we were thankful for each other, our blood family, and our church family that poured hours and hours of time and labor into our house in the days that followed. They embodied the love of Christ in our lives in every way. I know our family will never be the same since August 28th, 2017. And I have to say, it’s a good thing.
